Updated Dataset Now Available: Finalised Secondary Care Medicine Data (SCMD) with Indicative Pricing

March 20, 2025

We’ve updated how the Secondary Care Medicine Data (SCMD) with Indicative Pricing dataset is structured on the NHSBSA Open Data Portal (ODP), making it easier for users to track and analyse medicines stock movement across NHS Acute, Teaching, Specialist, Mental Health, and Community Trusts in England.

Previously, provisional SCMD data was published monthly, with finalised figures replacing the same dataset annually. This approach made it difficult for users to distinguish between provisional and finalised data and track updates consistently.

To address this, we have now published:

  • A dataset for provisional SCMD data, updated monthly
  • A separate finalised SCMD dataset, released annually

Registered users can now ‘follow’ each dataset independently, ensuring they receive timely updates on the data that matters most to them. It also enables clearer tracking of changes and supports comparative analysis between provisional and finalised figures.

Alongside this structural update, we’re also improving the dataset’s supporting information to provide clearer context and better insights.

Explore these datasets now:

You can access the data via the data explorer, download it directly, or connect via API.

You can create an account for access to the discussion boards about the data and the ability to follow datasets for future updates.

We encourage you to:

  • explore the data and discover insights relevant to your needs
  • let us know about any exciting use of the data and cite our data so that others can benefit too
